It’s time for me to begin a refresher coarse. Yes, it’s early, but I like to be prepared.
(And just so you know, this is not a commercial or anything like that.)
I’ve been through four labors and four deliveries. Each one has been different and unique. Three of the four I did without any pain medication. One of them was not induced. The one that was not induced was by far my easiest. I say that because it was quick, went as I would imagine a dream labor going, and I felt pretty great afterwards. As I was laboring in the car on the way to the hospital with this baby, I imagined her moving down the birth canal as a turtle ejects its head from within it’s shell. Slowly, calmly, and with little effort. Wow, did it work! By the time we got to the hospital she was nearly ready to be born. I have no recollection of how long it was from the time we arrived, until the time she was born. I know it was fast, and it happened in a prep room with a bunch of people squished in there. My doctor didn’t even have time to make it there from the OR. I had her and was ready to go home.
My labors that were induced were by far the most brutal and painful events of my life. If it is at all possible to avoid that pain again I will! With my last baby, he was induced but I had prepped myself with the HypBirth program and so was able to relax through all the contractions that came on fast and heavy from the pitocin. The self hypnosis techniques were a wonderful help. I’m hoping against hope that we’ll be able to avoid induction and go all natural, in which case the hypnosis will be an extra perk. But in case that route happens again, I’d like to be as prepared for the intensity of it as I possibly can be.
One thing I really really loved about the hynosis was that in the last few months I was so uncomfortable that I had trouble sleeping, eating, bathing, just about everything. But in listening to the cd’s I was able to relax so much that I would fall asleep peacefully. I could definitely use some peaceful rest already!
